New 2011 Audi RS5 Coupe Officially Revealed | AUTO WORLD

German automaker has officially revealed the new Audi RS5 Coupe which should become the main rival BMW M3 Coupe. Developed by Audi’s quattro GmbH division, the RS5 Coupe makes use of a revised version of the 4.2-liter V8 engine found in the previous RS4. The new RS5 will go on sale in Europe this Spring with a base price of around €77,700.

Power comes from a 4.2-liter V8 that produces 331 kW (444 hp / 450 PS) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. It is coupled to a seven-rate S tronic transmission which allows the 1,725 kilogram (3,803 beat) sedan to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, before topping out at an electronically limited 250 km/h (155 mph). If that isn’t swiftly enough, Audi can delete the alacrity limiter to enable the car to hit 280 km/h (174 mph). Despite this immense performance, the RS5 only consumes 10.8 liters of gasoline per 100 km (21.78 US mpg).

Comparing to the 354 hp 4.2-liter V8 in the S5 (which will quickly be replaced by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6), the RS5 engine features friction reduction technology and a new exhaust system.

To enhance the car’s treatment, Audi installed a new crown-gear center differential. The self-locking crown-gear “can broadly contrast the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles. If crucial, up to 70 percent can course to the front or as much as 85 percent about the tail end.” When addition footing isn’t mandatory, the piece has a 40:60 rear-biased configuration. According to Audi, “This new differential operates with electronic torque vectoring, which affects all four wheels. Other performance tweaks enter a revised braking routine (ceramic carbon-fortitude brakes are voluntary), a modified electronic stabilization series (which can be crooked off completely), and a recalibrated hurry-needy servotronic steering order (dynamic steering is elective).

The 2011 RS5 styling features an aggressive body kit, a cheap ride height (20mm/0.79″ slash the Audi A5), and 19-creep five-beam alloy wheels (20-inchers are elective). Other highlights contain twin oval exhaust pipes (which are integrated in the rear cushion), a large diffuser, and a rear spoiler which automatically extends at 120 km/h (75 mph) and retracts at 80 km/h (50 mph).

Interior upgrades over the standard A5 Coupe’s include a pair of sport seats, a sport steering wheel with perforated leather, red needles on the gauges and decorative inlays made of carbon fiber.
